Hard Mode Solo Farming

this is similar enough to the build I've been using for several months and was going to post for Hard Mode farming. It is inferior to E/A shadow form builds for green farming, but has mixed results when compared to Ritualist Vengeful farmers, as it can handle much larger aggros (and works best with large aggros). Vengeful and this build generally can farm the same areas.

In general, I remove both Armor of Earth and Ether Feast for some AoE nuking like Tenai's Crystals and Crystal Wave, resulting in a faster farm, but the build suggested works for more powerful foes. I experimented a bit with using EoE for even faster killing at the expense of mesmer energy management and stone striker, but the downtime for energy recoup was longer than the time gained.

Examples of areas that can be farmed in HM without Armor of Earth or Ether Feast - I've noted where they are needed (tested farmable areas listed below):

  • Around Sunspear Hall (including Hassin Softskin) between mandragors (avoid - they can strip enchants and stances, even obsidian flesh) and Suneh Stormbringer
  • the river between the Astralarium and Champion's Dawn in Jarin Bluffs (target skale blighters first and try to pull a mob to them when possible - while they can be avoided, the fastest runs I do pull a spawn of scale and avoid the rest)
  • Hulking Stone Elementals (and Bosses) outside Sardelac.

Nightfall Notes:

  • While it is possible to farm Suneh with some luck, it's MUCH easier with Obsidian Flesh or Ward of Stability + AoE. I personally don't think it's worth the effort and the low level green isn't worth much.
  • Fanged Iboga are more annoying than damaging and you can take any sized mob of them.
  • Stormseed Jacaranda can be beat even in small mobs with practice by keeping defense up and timing casting between knockdown. Target these first if grouped with Iboga. Groups of 3 or more usually take a bit of luck to avoid dying if you don't bring Armor of Earth.
  • Try to avoid pulling 3 or more Preying Lances without Armor of Earth. They usually spawn near Nephila that can be pulled to the lances (Nephila should do 0 damage with enchants up). This is usually the way I die stupidly, unless I pull mandragors.
  • mandragor can be beat, but you will likely die a lot because they strip your enchants (Chilblains), stance (Wild Blow), Daze you (Headbutt), and lifesteal with Ravenous Gaze. They suck.
  • All forms of Insects and Drakes are easily farmable.
  • Colossal farming is possible with Ether Feast (and no AoE) in Zehlon Reach without dying, but to do it you need to pull each group of 4 (after the group with insects) as their paths overlap and target Rangers (Raiders and Lookouts) first because they cause poison and burning. Avoid aggroing more than one group by pulling each group back a bit. I suspect it would be much faster just to start the Moddoc Crevice mission with Dunkoro, flag him back and not trust the corsairs (build is perfect for a mass of warriors).

Prophecies Notes:

  • Excellent for farming Elementals outside Sardelac.
  • Devourers can be farmed with practice and skill shuffling (Virulence is the biggest threat IMO - I shut down plague devourers with signet of humility in my optional slot as a test, but only tried this once).
  • Shatter Gargoyles are similar to Iboga and Flash Gargoyles similar to Stormseed. They can be beat with the same tactics.
  • Charr Warriors and Stalkers can be beaten with Ether Feast (due to burning degen). I haven't tested others.
  • Grawl are beatable with Ward of Stability, but it really isn't worth the effort (healers slow this farm to a crawl).
  • Warrior types such as minotaurs should also be farmable (untested in HM, but done in normal mode pre-nerf)

Factions Notes: Tested Farmable:

  • Jade Brotherhood Knights and Mages (not Rt or Me - they outheal/interrupt)
  • Stone Scale Kirin (but avoid aggroing Undergrowths which will Wild Blow your stance. Dragon Moss are easier with Armor of Earth)

I don't know how many hours I've farmed, but I've netted over 500000gp solo farming this way, gaining both skill points and gold and allowing me to complete the Skill Hunter titles.

 * this tip may be outdated if the Glyph change to 10 seconds becomes permanent
Usage tip: Use Glyph of Renewal just before aggroing or as soon as you start to draw aggro
and don't cast Sliver Armor until you've gained aggro. This will allow for continuous use
of Sliver Armor (26 seconds with enchant boost).

after the Chilblains nerf (er, buff?), it is possible to do Mandragors in HM with Glyph of Swiftness + Obsidian Flesh. It is easiest with an E/Mo and self bonding (Balthazar and/or Essence Bond) because of Stance removal, and is dirt simple with a 600 dual bonder (even the ele variant), but this is all about the solo build. --False Prophet 14:43, 20 December 2007 (EST)

Illusion of weakness?

I think it would be a better healing spell, that would activate if your health goes too low. --mangleD 10:47, 14 August 2007 (CEST)

No. You can't use it again after it activates. ~~ User:Frvwfr2 frvwfr2 (T/C/Sysop) 16:48, 24 August 2007 (CEST)
Yeah, you're right. mangleD

Someone remove the tag.

I really don't understand why this build is still in the untested (and about to be removed) while is one of the best El builds for farming solo HM. I also made a lot of money using it. I like it better than the E/A solo farmer build. Can someone remove the tag?

Removed tag and fixed it up a bit. - Ench | My builds 00:09, 7 November 2007 (CET)

Note: Moddoc Crevice mission doesn't work. After the initial corsairs there are madragors. Madragors= you die.

Another creature you can farm is tusked howlers. They remove mantra of earth but they are still farmable. Just one group at a time because you run slowly out of energy.

Tusked Howlers and other stance removing warriors are easier with an E/Mo using self bonding (e.g. Essence Bond, Balthazar's Aura). --False Prophet 14:21, 20 December 2007 (EST)

You can farm some bosses too. Chidehkir for example is very easy with this build. TheUncle 19:31, 7 November 2007 (CET)

Pretty simple Really, Use 1->2->3->4->5->6->7, Them Obsidian Flame To Finish Off Runners Air of Enchantment вℓυє ℓαgσσи 19:44, 3 December 2007 (CET)

Running this in a E/Mo would be a lot better if you were a 330 type but even with using Balthazar's Spirit and Earth Attunement, you will find that it is pretty hard to keep using Glyph of Renewal and Sliver Armor over and over again ever 10 or so seconds... Balth Spirit Would Be Handy, Mantra of Earth and Stone Sliver Would Be great, But Mystic Regen Counters Degen and Any Health That May of Been Lost Air of Enchantment вℓυє ℓαgσσи 19:43, 3 December 2007 (CET)

replace Obs flame with aftershock and you got urself the build ive been using for weeks to solo sins in haylcon job HM. -TehBuG-

with a little editing to the build this could very easily farm the uw (except for aaxtes) <pvxbig> [build prof=E/Me name="Renewal Sliver in UW" ene=3 air=4 ear=12 ill=9 ins=8][Glyph of Renewal][Sliver Armor][Crystal Wave][Storm Djinn's Haste][Ancestor's Visage][Stoneflesh Aura][Stone Striker][Mantra of Earth][/build] </pvxbig>

note that this is quite similar to the terra tank. also, could you possibly do some experimenting with churning earth in farming? it could quite possibly replace crystal wave.--Chris 09:38, 3 December 2007 (CET)

I can tell you from experience Churning Earth won't work with this build in HM because it causes KD and breaks aggro (from AoE scatter) and thus doesn't trigger Sliver as much, which is undesirable (similarly, it wouldn't work for a Vengeful farmer). In normal mode it may be ok, but I don't play normal mode. --False Prophet 14:24, 10 March 2008 (EDT)

Isnt there...

A build just like this somewhere but better?--Shadowsin 09:40, 3 December 2007 (CET)

http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Build:E/Me_SS_Sliver_Farmer uhh... look familiar.?--Shadowsin 18:18, 3 December 2007 (CET)
That build is similar but I wouldn't say that they are one of the same. This is the only one on here using Glyph of Renewal that I saw Joshgt2Sig Joshgt2 (Talk) 21:26, 3 December 2007 (CET)

There is a 55 monk which uses Sliver Armor, and GoR can be put in one of the optional slots. Wouldn't that one be superior? Since it reduces damage no matter how powerful the monsters are.- Jak123X 01:19, 5 December 2007 (CET)

and how would the 55 monk deal with interrupts?

It's called a Terra Tank. They just used GoR and sliver armor instead. Nothing new or innovative. Build was coming sooner or later.--Relyk 03:23, 11 December 2007 (CET)
The core skills for any solo build are very similar because there are only a few sets that provide the requisite energy management, damage absorbtion/negation, healing, and damage output. The majority of these builds require a certain set of Warrior, Monk, or Mesmer skills. I used to 55 farm with my monk, now I 600 farm and it uses an identical core skillset. --False Prophet 14:12, 20 December 2007 (EST)

How do other farming builds deal with interruption most of the time? Not so well if you think about it Joshgt2Charge! Joshgt2 (Talk) 03:27, 11 December 2007 (CET)
Skilled players deal with this a couple of ways - if you know you're going into an area with some interrupts, you will likely need Glyph of Concentration to maintain your primary protections (mainly 2 sec cast skills like Stoneflesh) and stagger your other skills by about a second, which helps against interruption since the AI prefers to interrupt chains. --False Prophet 14:12, 20 December 2007 (EST)
