The Wikia Noticeboard

This is a place where issues that only a Wikia Staff member can sort out. These issues will usually pertain to coding problems, relating to our PvXCode, or even the wiki's numerous extensions and special pages.

Please remember that PvXWiki has it's own Admin Noticeboard, and if an issue can be solved by an admin, post the issue there and not here.

To post an issues, please add it to the bottom of the section which the issue belongs, give the issue a suitable heading (Using a level 3 heading (3 ='s either side of the heading) E.G. ===Special:RecentRatings=== if there's a problem with the Recent Ratings page). Underneath the heading, give a brief discription of what's wrong, and sign and date your issue with 4 ~'s.

Note that this is not a talk page and that the respective moderators of each section reserve the right to remove non-administrative comments without discussion.

General Coding issues

These issues are generally related to the Mediawiki software, and any extensions that are installed (please note hat PvXCode has it's own section below).

Rating Page Lock

We need a way to lock rating pages from additions and removals(Like a page protection). Also useful for archived builds, to keep the rating page unchanged. ~~     Frvwfr2     talk    contribs    admin   16:53, 13 May 2008 (EDT)

Display issues with Safari Browser

Well, I recently downloaded the new Safari browser and i like it a lot. However, there seems to be some kind of display issue with PvX. The navigation bar that is supposed to appear on the left hand side of each article is just a blank white area and the links from that are pushed down to the very bottom of the page below the white area. Could be something to do with my computer, but can someone else using safari confirm? Thanks Peter 02:58, 26 September 2008 (EDT)

Yea, the sidebar links are getting pushed down below the article body on every page. I'll look into it and see if I can change the css or something to fix it if I have time. Hhhippo might know how to fix it. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 17:44, 26 September 2008 (EDT)
Nothing I've tried fixes it. It's entirely possible it's a safari bug. But if anyone else who knows some css wants to try to figure it out, here's a summary of what I tried:
  1. Reducing the width of the article body and/or sidebar just leaves a bigger gap between them.
  2. Changing the white-space:nowrap in the h4, h5, and h6's for .portlet to white-space:normal removes the big section of whitespace, and the sidebar looks normal... except that it's still shoved down below the article.
  3. Changing the border, padding, and margin for .portlet and #pBody did nothing.
I tried more than this, but I don't remember it all. Also, guildwiki, GWW, and wikipedia all look normal in Safari. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 18:26, 26 September 2008 (EDT)
Confirmed, no other wikis seem to be having this issue. Peter 07:53, 27 September 2008 (EDT)
Opera, IE, Firefox, and Chrome all load the wiki fine. I'm guessing it's a rendering issue in Safari. If you want, I could try to write up a CSS that'll fix it for just you that you can put in your monobook. Cedave bad  ツ cedave (☆contributions☆) 20:24, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
If it was a rendering issue would it not an effect on the other wikis? Its not a huge problem by an stretch of the imagination, just a bit inconvenient. I will contact apple and see what they say....Peter 04:26, 29 September 2008 (EDT)
Well, all I can get out of apple is that its not a Safari browser problem.....back to using firefox i go lol. Peter 02:46, 1 October 2008 (EDT)

Display Issues with Chrome

Same problem as described above with Safari. [[1]]. Anyone got anything? Sometimes its not that far down, it depends on the page I'm looking at. - McTai Tai Sig Image 3 14:31, 2 December 2008

Same but it ends under the red window. Fox007 User:Fox007 14:45, 2 December 2008 (EST)
(EC)Maybe add style="vertical-align:top"? Only Hhhippo or GCardinal can test / fix it though. ~ ĐONT*SYSOP 14:47, 2 December 2008 (EST)
For me the nav bar (ie, Recent Changes) starts right at the end of the article. For this page, for example, it's wayyyy down there. Tai sig Image 78 14:48, 2 December 2008
(EC)Also the white part is a huge link to the main page. I do not know if that would help though. Fox007 User:Fox007 14:49, 2 December 2008 (EST)
This is exactly the same problem I have with my Safari Browser, it seems to push everything down to the bottom of the articles for some reason, most likely because the advert does not fit in the navigation bar. However, as above, widening this seemed to have no effect. Any coding experts out there? Peter 14:09, 3 December 2008 (EST)
Keep in mind, Chrome is still beta. You'd have to wait until it was production-state for anyone to bother submitting an aesthetic fix. However, it sounds like a browser rendering issue in the way that IE renders things differently than Firefox. It might get fixed by Google, but there's a solid chance you'll have to edit your personal Monobook file. (I'm not entirely sure if this is possible, however. =/) 128.255.195.88 08:10, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Vote Wipe Button

Could BM's/Admins possibly get a vote wipe button, where it asks you for the reason and then all the votes get removed for that reason? Helpful for vote wipes if it was a minor change etc. ~~     Frvwfr2     talk    contribs    admin   18:57, 18 December 2008 (EST)

One semi-related question: should archived builds all be votewiped? I second frv btw. -- Jebuscontests 19:18, 18 December 2008 (EST)
currently, policy suggest we should vote wipe archives, I believe Dont wants to remove that line(looking at the EB talk page). Also ()no offence meant by this) I fail to see what you seconding achieves when you lack access to said tools (or should said tools be implemented). I wouldn't mind a vote wipe button either in any case (though I can leave deleting and restoring). ~ PheNaxKian Sysop 12:04, 19 December 2008 (EST)
nah im just saying its a good idea. -- Jebuscontests 12:28, 19 December 2008 (EST)
On Dont's issues with the vope wipe thing, I removed it. I kinda wrote that part and realized I was being stupid when I wrote the whole vote wipe thing. It already hurt us deeply. --GoD Hammer and Sickle Guild of Deals 22:22, 21 December 2008 (EST)

Some templates become invalid when downloaded

When the template code contains a "+", this "+" is html decoded to a " ", because + is the url escape characer for a space. So a link like "http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Special:DownloadTemplate?build=OQCjUqnLqSPY+iAAVYiYaYubybA&name=P/any%20Song%20of%20Purification%20Paragon" becomes "http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Special:DownloadTemplate?build=OQCjUqnLqSPY iAAVYiYaYubybA&name=P/any%20Song%20of%20Purification%20Paragon", which results in a template file with an invalid code. This could be a browser issue with Opera only, or a bug in the DownloadTemplate. See for an example: Build:P/any Song of Purification ParagonTHC4k 23:46, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Just c/p the code directly from the box. The DL button should be remeoved IMO. Zyke-Sig 23:57, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
It would be usefull to me to save a template with one click. Plus fixing the bug is dead simple ( urlencode the build string in the templates' link ). THC4k 11:50, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Special:ProblemReports and PvXwiki:ProblemReports

Something odd is going on here. First of all, I'm pretty sure that there should be some server side code that auto-inserts a redirect to the Special page corresponding the the problem. Also, for example, PvXwiki:ProblemReports/22501 refuses to redirect. ··· Danny Does Drugs 18:37, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Not to mention, that's a whole new section that our admins might need to monitor, since it's apparently being used and all current "problems" and in pending state. ··· Danny Does Drugs 18:37, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Redirecting to Special: pages is disabled due to "Redirected from" missing when you use Special:Random. --- Ohaider! -- (contribs) (talk) 18:53, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
urgh, we need a wikia noticeboard (it's on my to do list). It's a special page, so it can only be fixed by wikia someone should contact them in case I don't. ~ PheNaxKian Sysop 18:59, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
no wait. Why should "PvXwiki:ProblemReports/#####" redirect to a special page? I'm clearly missing your reasoning. ~ PheNaxKian Sysop 19:02, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
It should redirect to the corresponding special subpage, since it's obviously using the PvXwiki namespace simply for a talk page. ··· Danny Does Drugs 19:08, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Basically, I would assume that PvXwiki:ProblemReports/##### would redirect to Special:ProblemReports/##### to facilitate navigation. ··· Danny Does Drugs 19:10, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Build talk:Team - SoO Sinway

Prior to my two edits (undoing last edit and reinserting comment) the linked talk page was broken, and would only pop an error message. When looking at the last diff, you could go to "later" diffs, which were all empty edits with the same revision number. It's now editable again, but no matter which revision you edit, it will state you're editing an out-of-date version of the talk page. I don't know if deleting/undeleting will do anything (cannot try it myself), so I figured it might be best put here. --- Ohaider! -- (contribs) (talk) 11:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

yeh, deleting and restoring it fixes it (I mentioned it somewhere on the AN the other day). It seems to be happening a lot recently, so when I get a chance I'll contact Wikia about it (i don't think they really check this page :/). ~ PheNaxKian talk 12:01, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Mouse-over Attribute descriptions

Would it be possible to have mousing over an attribute display the in-game description of that attribute? ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 17:48, 9 June 2008 (EDT)

I agree with the idea, surely it could use the same wiki code or whatever as the ratings? When you hover over Innovation it gives you a description of it, surelt it could be done for attributes? /FrosTalk\ 07:59, 11 June 2008 (EDT)
I was thinking about that. It would be nice (especially when calculating things like Expertise and Critical Strikes). --File:GoD Wario Sig.JPG*Wah Wah Wah!* 07:59, 11 June 2008 (EDT)
When you roll the mouse over Palm Strike in a build (with points in Critical Strikes) it does not show the relevant attributes (as if you had not pointed critical strikes in the build) Xiay 08:48, 28 January 2009 (EST)

Health Sacrifice

The fact that health sacrificed doesn't show up in the skill mouseover is kind of annoying. Is there any hope that it will be added? --CJNyfalt 17:35, 9 July 2008 (EDT)

(EC)hmm it might be linked to the PvE rank. even if you put @3 it doesn't change anything (it doesn't even show what the duration should be). Just leave it a while, Hippo or GCard will see this eventually, amd if it's our code they'll fix it. If it's GWBBcode, i've left GCard a message asking him to update to the new version (with their being a new version) hopefully it's been fixed in that version. if not then just tough I guess =p, not much we can do. PvXbig links

More of a suggestion than anything. FC on signets

This barely even matters at all (if at all) but:

<pvxbig> [build prof=Me FastCasting=100][Healing Signet][Antidote Signet][Signet of Lost Souls][Signet of Humility][Signet of Return][RoJ][/build] </pvxbig>

you can see here when fast casting is high on signets the cast time goes onto negative numbers whereas with spells the number stays at 0.0. It really doesn't make a difference to anything but you know :P File:Happiny.jpgMrMetalFLower-...tlk 15:42, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

it also scales kinda awkwardly, like you can see here the longest casting signets have the lowest number (i.e. furthest into negative number) casting times... File:Happiny.jpgMrMetalFLower-...tlk 15:44, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Fast casting scales linearly for signets and follows an exponential model for spells. The behaviour is correct. Misery CowMisery Says Moo 15:48, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
It's just the whole idea that it's not possible to do something 10 seconds before you've cast it :P OK so it's not possible to get a high enough level for it either but it's just not mathematically sound :P File:Happiny.jpgMrMetalFLower-...tlk 15:51, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
If signets scale linearly and spells scale exponentially it is mathematically sound. With linear scaling you can get under 0, with exponential you cannot. It is expected behavior. Dragnmn talk cont 14:29, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Don't put in gigantic numbers - problem solved. Though, I would be interested in what would happen if you managed to get 34+ FC. It would either assume 0 and be instant cast, or crash the server, I'd imagine. ··· Danny Does Drugs 19:15, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
