In the end, we aim to teach people about what makes a build effective and which builds to use. It may not seem that way at first glance, but the fact of the matter is that the only people we're likely to impact are those who ''don't'' know how to make a good build and who ''don't'' know which builds to use. At first glance, it might appear that the goal of the vetting process is merely to determine which builds are good and which builds are not. And yes, part of teaching people about builds consists merely of showing them which are the good builds and which the bad. But there's a reason we ask people to provide a justification for their votes. Partially, of course, we require justifications in order to weed out votes based on false premises, etc., but more important is the potential for teaching people what makes a build good and what makes a build bad. Sure, if I post a meta build, those votes probably aren't going to mean much to me, but they may mean something to someone else who isn't as well informed/knowledgeable. And this is even more true when it comes to those truly awful builds. In most cases, these are builds posted by people who genuinely think the build is good (or even great), they don't know any better. So what's the point of posting a 0-0-0 vote with the reasoning as "Terribad" or something along those lines? Sure, it's obvious to you, and sure, you're preventing the build from being vetted and potentially having a negative impact on other users. But are you helping the author (who in this case represents one of those people who we might actually be able to have an impact on)? You're telling them this particular build which they've posted is bad, maybe they'll even stop using it, but unless you get to the root of the problem, you're not really helping them at all (besides which, they're unlikely to believe we've given their build a fair shake, so they may end up learning nothing at all).

I don't think I ever understood the true meaning of the word "melodrama" until I became involved in wikis. On PvX, people seem to, inexplicably, derive their self-worth from their knowledge of the game. Sure, being good at the game is nice and all, and it can certainly be of use when trying to create a build repository, but when you spend more time telling people that they "fail at life" because they don't know that PvP casters use Spears than actually doing something of value, you know there's a problem. It's nothing new as far as this site is concerned, but I've slowly found myself having less and less patience when it comes to this kind of asinine behavior. I think this is pretty well borne out by the fact that I recently changed my MSN Messenger signature from "PvX:YAV - All users are equal, but some users are more equal" to "You might be an idiot if... you think that being good at a video game means something." So here's a rule to live by: when you start judging people's worth based on their comparative knowledge of a video game, you've failed at life. I'll admit it, I can be plenty elitist at times, but honestly, if you're one of the people who behaves in the manner that I've outlined, get over yourself.
On an unrelated note, from this point on, anyone who writes "any more the eviscerate executioners strike spike dont work that much but its fairly effective. very weak against any type of anti-melee and shock is a costly interrupt skill" as a reason for a vote is gonna get banned. Idiotic != epic, end of story.
I'm the one on the bottom.
Also, in general, my tolerance for idiocy is wearing thin, so...

*While I have submitted a number of builds and was heavily involved in the vetting process on GuildWiki's build namespace, and while I will continue to remain involved to a degree, my focus on PvX is policy related and managerial. Do note however that when I do submit a build, while I want it to succeed, I normally care more about innovation than about making a build that's gonna get into the "Great" category.
