Tanking in AB

What you said here on the 4th made me want to tell you a story =D. One day, I decided to screw around in AB with a perma shadow form build. I joined a random team, round started and I went straight towards the enemy base. Sure enough, enemies follow me, and don't leave. By the time the game was over I had collected half the enemy team just standing there dancing while they tried to kill me. Funny story, eh?— Uber sig pic 1 Teh Uber Pwnzer 08:10, 15 December 2007 (CET)

Er... one decently specced mewtwo just rapes shit with 425 or more spatk. There's no comparison. Even porygon-z (the single most broken non-uber) gets only 350 or so. -Auron 02:55, 26 December 2007 (EST)

They being the people doing the banning. Although your analogy makes me think that the fact that they lack Izzy gives them points. -- Armond WarbladeArmond sig image{{sysop}} 04:36, 26 December 2007 (EST)
Er... you try beating a team of all legendaries that are faster than you, hit harder than you, have more HP than you, and take less damage than you from every attack. It is really hard outside of gimmickry. That's why they're banned. -Auron 04:54, 26 December 2007 (EST)
Yeah, sorry, I get it now. Too used to GW PvP, where gimmickry is assumed (and therefore counters are sorta brought). -- Armond WarbladeArmond sig image{{sysop}} 04:56, 26 December 2007 (EST)
Even with most standard gimmicks they're still hard to beat. FEAR, endurikens, arenatrap-baton passing... all get outpowered by pokemon with stats that are just too high. The point of an enduriken is to be faster than everything, but when a mewtwo or something outspeeds you simply because his stats are over 9000, it gets irritating. -Auron 04:59, 26 December 2007 (EST)

In other news, PvX is bad for the following reasons:

 • Everyone abuses Internet Lingo
 • Pointless Spam
 • Bad Builds
 • No direction
 • No organization
 • 50% of the fucking userbase, cannot spell "the" :/.

On a more interesting note, Auron has finally come out of the closet:

 • Ignores me
 • Guild Name (lol even AK is better)
 • Guild Tag
 • Asks “who r u” <--- I annoy the shit out of you, but I don’t really care. That’s who I am.

You only need one tainter, and some sort of physical pressure always helps. That looks like it would probably be best with 2 thumpers tbh, but then its just heroway all over again =\ - Rawrawr 09:38, 7 January 2008 (EST)
For what I know auron isn't an ha'er omg. Also, only degen is bad. You need chop chop panda's(with pets and hammers), 4 necro's is even more bad. Current hexway meta is prob best you can get. - Unexist sigUnexist 09:57, 7 January 2008 (EST)
With Muddy Terrain, it is imperative that you have more than enough hex removal. If a snare is allowed to stay on your runner for its entire duration, you're going to lose, plain and simple.
On top of hex removal, you need to have interrupts (not only for GH capping, but for eles and necros with Ward Foes).
Two monks are very very flimsy. Diversion on one and the other has to heal 8 people by himself for 6 seconds. If you get diversioned and your runner has hex snares... well, you lose that relic run.
Two tainted is really unnecessary (and tbh, I don't think Tainted is worth it ever; you're sacrificing elites like Spiteful Spirit and Corrupt Enchantment for condi pressure that rarely ever works unless you're already winning, at which point it's dumb). Also, drop Signet of Lost Souls; necromancers have, hands down, the best energy management in the game (still). You don't need more.
And lastly, as Unexist said, you need to have melee. Melee is how you kill stuff. Thumpers would be the generic choice here, but since you already have a trapper, you might go with a enchant stripping sin and/or a shock axe. More skill required, but more effectiveness overall. -Auron 20:09, 7 January 2008 (EST)

Yellow Rating

Auron reviewed as of 19:53, 13 Jan 2008 (EST) on http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Build_talk:Team_-_Yellow_Way

"The lack of expel is dumb."

Auron, I don't see how your rating accurately portrays our build. Could you please elaborate on the decisions you made that warranted rating the build they way you did? Warrior-icon-small Minus talk 10:26, 17 January 2008 (EST)
It doesn't have expel hexes, which makes it kinda bad. Keep in mind we don't rate builds based on their restrictions, we rate them based on how good they are compared to everything else. -- Armond WarbladeArmond sig image{{sysop}} 18:43, 17 January 2008 (EST)
Because a build doesn't have expel hexes doesn't make it default to being a bad build... aside from that, you are correct in the fact that it has a blatant weakness to being hexed. This, of course, is a shortcoming of our build (although strangely enough has not been a problem on all accounts so far). To address your comment about how you rated, I think there may have been some miscommunication. I personally don't expect the build to achieve great status (again, it's somewhat of a novelty build) but we do want to see an understanding of the build's mechanics in the reviews. This is why we contacted you. So far, this build has been drilled through a large amount of dungeons, and cleared some elite areas as well. I respect your rating and am not asking you to change it, we were just looking for more input as to your direction as to what other reasons you had for rating it the way you did. I encourage you to take the build for a stroll. Despite it being a weird build, every one that has played it has come back saying how fun it was to run. Look to our page, we're be adding a video sometime soon (we have to footage, now it's time to edit and compress).Darith Kaulk 21:03, 17 January 2008 (EST)
There's a huge weakness to hexes. Expel Hexes is possibly the best hex removal in the game, ignoring its elite status. Your paragons, in general, don't need elites. 2+2=4. -- Armond WarbladeArmond sig image{{sysop}} 23:46, 17 January 2008 (EST)
I agree. BaineImgBaineTheBotter 03:01, 18 January 2008 (EST)
I've beaten each campaign with a paragon. I've beaten Mallyx with one, won countless GvGs playing paragon, and even won Halls on para on several occasions. I know what they are capable of.
In all honesty, simply to beat PvE, Paragons don't need expel. They can, with their insane amount of defense and autoattack damage, just sit out the hexes. Even if they're hitting 50% of the time and attacking 50% slower, their targets will still die.
However, because we're going for a higher standard of quality than "it works," you do need expel. The only para hex removal is Hexbreaker Aria, and that requires each hexed paragon to cast a spell (which is a pretty ridiculous requirement, and thus isn't even halfway decent hex removal).
Paragons are effective when proper care is taken. It's sort of like a warrior; they're great until some tiny thing happens (like blind or cripple), then they're all kinds of useless. Hexes on paragons are pretty much that; anything from Faintheartedness (which is common in all three campaigns + gotn) to Images of Remorse or Vocal Minority make paragons energyless autoattackers. If they weren't so susceptible to hexes, I wouldn't be as worried about expel. -Auron 03:23, 18 January 2008 (EST)

The shove spike thingie. Image-Dark Morphon's SiggieDark Morphon(contribs) 08:53, 22 January 2008 (EST)
It's a spike build that takes zero skill to run and gets glad points faster than most other TA gimmicks put together. It's still a gimmick, thus is easily countered when it's all you fight, but judging its performance based on fights against teams that bring your exact counterbuild? That's like rating every warrior build 0-0-0 because Bsurge exists.
Good players, as always, can out-skill it. Good players can outskill any gimmick in any arena; that isn't a reason to rate said gimmick lower. However, the vast majority of rangers in TA suck too much to dshot bash or shove; not many mesmers have diversion; and all prots simply fail to stop the spike. This particular gimmick offers too much to be rated 1-1-1.
It is more easily countered than some other builds; but the inability to prot it has much to do with its performance. I don't care how much balance you have, if a simple Spirit Bond stops you, your build is spiking worse than this build. I mean, seriously; a dshot on any balanced build's dev hammer or crushing blow and the same shit happens - your spike fails.
It's a trade-off between unprot-ability and a long cooldown time (most of which can be used to taunt your opponent, which is 90% of the goal in 4v4 arena matches). The cooldown is so long that it sort of outweighs the unprottable spike, but it isn't enough to outweigh it down to a 1-1-1 rating. -Auron 09:06, 22 January 2008 (EST)
Ok thanks for explaining. Image-Dark Morphon's SiggieDark Morphon(contribs) 09:14, 22 January 2008 (EST)
Funny, I thought I was under the impression that we voted based on the idea that we were going up against players with any kind of skill (thus why we don't pay as much attention to AB/RA builds). -- Armond WarbladeArmond sig image{{sysop}} 14:31, 22 January 2008 (EST)
Far from the fastest. 30 second recharge spikes is probably one of the slowest, as a good balanced team rolls. — Skadiddly[슴Mc슴]Diddles 14:33, 22 January 2008 (EST)
That and you can SoA the spike if it's on anyone else than the monk, lulz. –Ichigo724Ichigo-signature 14:48, 22 January 2008 (EST)
SoA has a 1 second cast time, which means it would only catch one or two late smite skills. I don't think I've seen it stop the spike once. -Auron 21:06, 22 January 2008 (EST)
Even if you only hit one of the first strikes, it still goes down to 516 from the monks. About what's said below, just removing dw isn't enough. The monks alone do ~700 clean. (dshotting shove > anything though) –Ichigo724Ichigo-signature 23:44, 22 January 2008 (EST)

The way to stop shove spike is to ball the ranger and the monk together. The ranger mending touches the monk when the spike goes off to remove the Deep Wound and the monk dismissed the ranger if the ranger gets spiked. It's kinda nice having all the stuff to be deleted in one place. Might I ask what your reasoning was there? -- Armond WarbladeArmond sig image{{sysop}} 14:14, 29 January 2008 (EST)

And, uh, why would we be using Category:WELL as a template? ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 17:04, 29 January 2008 (EST)
Includeonly makes it (the WELL page) not appear in candidates for deletion, but every page tagged with WELL should still show up in the candidates for deletion (if the template is made correctly, anyway). I see no point in having a separate category for builds being deleted, seeing as builds are the only thing we ever delete in the first place. -Auron 02:22, 30 January 2008 (EST)
Builds with the WELL tag are only placed in Category:WELL. Making one category a subcategory of another doesn't make everything in the first show up in the second (if it did, this would have over a thousand articles in it :P) , it just leaves a handy link from WELL to CfD. And personally, I like the separate categories because I tend to leave the WELLing to other people. This way, I don't have to sort through all the things tagged with WELL when I'm looking for stuff to delete. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(sysop) 15:04, 30 January 2008 (EST)
