Jethro Tull? Really? And the Eragon series as some of your favorite books? I know it was a long time ago, but damn man..... KJ badge sig 19:43, 3 August 2009
Eragon? They're ok, but I much prefer shannara. My main problem with eragon is the huge bias that is evident throughout the whole series. The elves are portrayed as the superior race, but they're atheist vegetarians and mock those who feel otherwise (dwarves' religion, the main character's meat preference). The series is ok if I try my best to ignore that, but I generally can't.
And yes, I'm a huge tull fan. -Auron 01:09, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
The first Eragon book was by far the best of the lot. I really wanted to like the series, but the sword thing in book three just made me feel like it had jumped the shark. :/ -- Armond WarbladeArmond sig image{{Bacon}} 05:04, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

I enjoyed reading through that post, I really can't believe how badly they got all of this wrong. I felt they should have stuck to 20 bars (1 for HA 1 for GvG) and just made them hero friendly but not amazingly good (so, maybe SF Ele in HA since Henchies follow targets, things along those lines). The fact they have Song/Haste and Grasping/Foes on some of the bars really tells you they have no idea what they are doing. --Frosty Mc Admin 17:53, October 3, 2009 (UTC)
I find it funny that they managed to find bars that most players in RA can't properly run, and decided to throw them onto heroes. And on top of that, they've managed to break the game over and over while simultaneously thinking they'll satisfy the (rapidly shrinking) community of players whom are pretty much fed up over the ridiculous skill updates. Gringo 22:49, October 19, 2009 (UTC)
Wiz still plays GW on the rare occasion, and he certainly did play often up until Aion was released. There's probably a reason DE brushed it off the table, and there's probably a similar reason that Frosty hasn't gotten a BCrat badge yet. ··· Danny Pew Pew 22:58, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

And Gringo, stop being a martyr - if I had something personal against you I wouldn't have promoted you last time. -Auron 01:44, October 20, 2009 (UTC)
how is it possibly a waste of time auron? it takes you 2 seconds to promote me. even if i left after only 1 vote removal or vote after that, it would have been worth your 2 seconds. everyone BM will leave, even if they say they wont (every single one has left thus far, including our active ones). Gringo 02:58, October 20, 2009 (UTC)

Hey all. Long time no see. So. With regard to making Frosty a bureaucrat. I personally don't see the need to promote a new bureaucrat as being terribly pressing, so I've not yet communicated with either Auron or Wizardboy. (It doesn't help that I use IRC much less these days and that I hardly ever use MSN anymore.) And frankly, if I was looking to promote a new bureaucrat, my first inclination would be Misery, not Frosty. With regard to the RfBM being discussed on this page, I've yet to see anything even remotely resembling a compelling case being presented in favor of promotion--in spite of the seemingly overwhelming numerical support you've got, most of your supporters seem ambivalent at best--and I don't feel particularly inclined to trust your decision-making abilities from what little I personally have seen from you. You got promoted. You left after a week. Aside from touting a myriad of euro guilds I personally, have never heard of, there is no validity to your claim of guild wars excellence (not even crow will say you are good). For god's sake half the votes supporting your promotion include the word "rage". 2/3 of the votes against you, are actual build masters. You are an unreliable, unqualified, self-serving elitist. Common sense dictates that you do not deserve promotion. --Readem 22:46, October 20, 2009 (UTC)
thats clever how you used statistics bro. when i only have like 3 opposes (one from a pve bm, one from a washed up TA player, and one from a prior supporter), things like "2/3" have much less of an impact. Gringo 23:19, October 20, 2009 (UTC)

You aren't impressed by me fixing/posting builds like this and this? Or was it places where i used reasons to explain why builds were bad/inferior like here and here? Or maybe it was when i explained how to improve builds like here and here. I had a build master harrass me places like here, here, and here, where if my vote didn't match the BM's then it was automatically removed, reasoning or not. I then took action to allow my votes to go through (by posting on the AN and asking admins on MSN to check it out, but they responded by saying "I'm Switzerland in this affair"), and people took my resulting actions as an e-peen war with Tahiri Veila. I know it's a lot of links, but it just seems silly that Jake's harassment and then subsequent move to oppose lost me BM. In before tl;dr and cool story bro. Gringo 00:27, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

While you are correct in asserting that some of those links you provided have merit (a few comments in particular demonstrate that you may indeed have an IQ that exceeds room temperature), I'm not exactly inclined to think any differently of you when the links that you, yourself, present as evidence are rife with comments like:

was never meta, its bad
no one would ever, ever run this in gvg, its horrible
ill rephrase. no one would ever ever run this ever.
because all you retards keeping saying OMG LINEBACK SO EURO WOO LINEBACK LINEBACK
there is no appeal, readem claims its good, even though no one has or ever will run it because it sucks. and jake is just riding his dick

Maybe this is the type of stuff that passes as legitimate discourse around here these days, but I can't say I'm terribly impressed by it. Simply put though, your RFBM failed because not a single person felt compelled to provide a legitimate support vote that wasn't totally ambivalent. Defiant Elements Sig Test 2 *Defiant Elements* +talk 00:55, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

like misery's? and yes, its our job to post the best builds, the ones that are meta, so when i say that something is not meta and never will be, its for good reason. you took most of those comments out of context, because on those pages i provided legitimate reasons for why something is bad, rather then just saying its bad and then leaving. Gringo 01:17, October 22, 2009 (UTC)
Build Masters are now required to sanction builds that aren't used by players, or non-meta builds. They are also required to carebear like admins do. Ya, the features added in crystal are al basically default now. and considering they've annouced the 5th gen pokemon stuff in japan, it seems as though their doing only silver/gold and going straight to w/e the 5th is. same with firered and leafgreen, i doubt they'll do crystal since they didn't do yellow. i just know the gsc series was my fav out of it all. had the most content imo, and was the best :P thats my idea anyways. and yes maf, i work for the devil. and idk much about XIII really, just getting it cuz the asm is making me, although 5 days later i'll only be on my ds for who know how long reliving ten years ago. but ya, i'll proly get gs3 to, and i plan on checking that tonight to just see what our set date is atm. Firing someone from a service-level job for comments attacking his or her employer is generally considered discrimination, iirc. You guys come here voluntarily, and aren't employees. Therefore, there are no laws governing whether or not we can view your IP. Just stating that checkuser can track an IP, and that isn't illegal....however abused can be quite annoying.--X 01:37, February 23, 2010 (UTC)
You're more likely to get harassed after visiting a spam site. (If you don't know - any website you visit most likely logs your IP, among a number of other details including your OS and browser.) Not to mention, CheckUser isn't tracking your IP. It's just displaying it. Tracking it would involve displaying your connections to various pages, which CheckUser can't do. On the other hand, there have been several cases of employers tracking internet usage of employees, both at work and at home. At work, it's been held that the employer has the right to do so. At home, it's a serious privacy issue that has generally sided with employees, except in very specific cases that had to do with very sensitive information. ··· Danny So Cute 05:11, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
In order to track someone all you need is the IP. @ work all they have to do is check your history under temp files if they wanted to know what you were doing anyway if they were unable to collect it off the server.--X 11:03, February 23, 2010 (UTC)

Oh, and, it was pretty obvious trolling. You were saying bullshit like "sysops are glorified janitors," and that hasn't been the case for years now. -Auron 23:15, April 14, 2010 (UTC)
Lol, eveytime I've ever tried to have any kind intelligent discussion on GWW I've been written off as troll b/c I got into an argument with briar within a couple of days of joining GWW. I'm sure I could spend the next couple of months being a completely productive contributor to the mainspace and still find any of my attempts to have a polite, logical argument labeled as trolling for one primary reason: the GWW staff has a completely different definition of trolling from the rest of the web. Most people regard trolling as a deliberate attempt by a user to antagonize another user, GWW admins seem to define trolling as expressing an opinion that differs from that of the GWW staff. I don't expect to change anyone's mind over there, b/c anyone willing to join a community like GWW will never be able to acknowledge any form of wrongdoing on his/her part, but I need to make the logical argument, even if it's destined to fall on deaf ears. So I'll argue and present the logical scenario, but I'm not trying to be obstinate or anger anyone. I'm just trying to be the advocate of reason. Cheers.--TahiriVeila 23:54, April 14, 2010 (UTC)
No, you're trying to introduce logical fallacies to try to get people to reconsider banning trolls. Don't even talk to me about you being the advocate of reason, it just makes me laugh. All of your arguments on that page have been complete bullshit, and that's only the ones that are up-to-date (ie not counting the obviously wrong ones like "sysops are glorified janitors"). Do you think this game is improving now? Due to all the mistakes that you have pointed out will you buy/play GW2?---XTREME 14:01, May 29, 2010 (UTC)

definitely not and probably not -Auron 06:18, May 30, 2010 (UTC)
So you are saying it got worse? I think they are on the right path...however when they fix one they break another. I understand that. Meh. I have to ask what build isn't considered a gimik build?---XTREME 01:44, June 9, 2010 (UTC)
The right path? Guild Wars has been dead for 3 years. -Auron 10:23, June 9, 2010 (UTC)
Well it is a start. Should of said taking proper steps. I wouldn't say it is dead for people still play.....more along the lines of broken (but I get your point).---XTREME 10:50, June 9, 2010 (UTC)
It is dead to the point that it has already had it's funeral and been forgotten. --Frosty Frostcharge 11:11, June 9, 2010 (UTC)
^ This, really. It's not even borderline dead. It's off the plank, eaten by sharks, shit out and eaten by tiny fish dead. You ever try tombs lately? It was bad back when I played, but now it's like 2 hours of nops between matches in hoh. Nothing they do will have any impact whatsoever, even if jesus himself came back from the dead to balance the game. -Auron 12:04, June 9, 2010 (UTC)
I have to say I once had a run in halls a month back where we got 5 matches in a row, it was insane. --Frosty Frostcharge 12:07, June 9, 2010 (UTC)
I was in game the other day and there were two districts of tombs. I was like holy shit, is it back? Then I realized it was double fame weekend. -Auron 12:08, June 9, 2010 (UTC)

TOR

700,000 people have registered to participate in the open beta and the game isn't due out until next spring. Looks like WoW is finally gonna have a real rival in the MMO market--TahiriVeila 02:29, June 11, 2010 (UTC)

Bout time, too. I was afraid the only thing that would surpass it is blizz's next MMO.
The only problem with tor is... it's bioware. They used to be good, now all their releases are consistently mediocre (dragon age had potential but sucked, mass effect games are decent efforts but each have gaping holes that leave the player asking for more). They're going to have to do better than that to beat blizzard in their own market. Their last "great" game came out 7 years ago, and I'm not sure they have what it takes to compete with blizz - they'll need a playerbase, publicity, constant content updates (a la wow's), and most of all, top-notch customer service.
Bioware can sort of do playerbase, they can sort of maybe do publicity (but they'll have to really, really try), they'll have to bust their balls on content updates (i honestly think this is where they'll fail - wow came out with icecrown in december, guilds have killed the last boss in 25 heroic mode, and the next raid is already on the PTR and the next expansion is in alpha - making new content constantly is a real gear shift from standard game releases, and only blizzard has been any good at it), and they'll have to hire like an army of people who speak english to be a good support base. I'm sure tor will have better CR/support than guild wars, but the blizzard support people are quick, efficient, thorough, and nice. Oh, and they all speak english really well (or get proofread by someone who does), so it doesn't feel like I'm talking to some fucknut from india.
It has promise. Unfortunately, it's a star wars game, and star wars as a franchise has more bad games than any other I can think of. Also unfortunately, bioware is making it, and while they're better than some other companies I could name, I don't think they're up to it. I'm forseeing a huge wave of people signing up (age of conan style) just because it's star wars and omg lightsabers, then once they've played it for 2 weeks or a month, they find out it has no end-game and cancel their sub and go back to wow/eq/lineage/consoles/etc. Making a MMO that the entire world plays for a month isn't really a feat. Making a MMO that the entire world plays for 5 years is. That's what bioware needs to be shooting for, and honestly, I don't think they can do it. -Auron 17:08, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
You of all people say Blizzard's support people are efficient and nice? I've heard too many rages from you about fucknuts needing on downgrades in heroics and Blizzard not doing anything about it to not be suspicious here. Just to top it off, I have far too many stories about the master looter misclicking loot to the wrong person taking a day (or more!) to fix. Sure, they're no NCSoft, but they're not amazing either. I'd be happier if instead of saying "that's working as intended" they'd say things like "yeah that's pretty screwed up, I'll bring that up with my boss when we have our next meeting, but right now our policy doesn't let me do anything about it". -- Armond WarbladeArmond sig image{{Bacon}} 19:49, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
As far as content goes, I think they will be up to it. The MMO has been in production for almost 5 years now, and the design team is (mostly) the same one that did KOTOR. From what I've seen so far the gameplay looks superb bioware has always had better customer service than SOE and Anet. I'm hoping it'll turn out well and that bioware has done enough preparation to compete with blizzard. The combat engine and game in general look pretty solid from what we've seen, it'll really all come down to content I think--TahiriVeila 19:53, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
Armond; I compare their customer service to other company's service, not how service would be in Auron's Kingdom of Awesomeness and Naked Chicks. 1 day for a mislooted item? That's pretty fantastic. Is the person who rightfully won the item going to die because he doesn't get it for 1 day? No. Blizzard has millions of players and probably tens of thousands of tickets. 1 day for a response time is fine, especially considering the response is quality (i.e., they would re-loot the item). The dungeon queue loot system is an epic failure, and as I told you before, I called the GM a fucking idiot because of it. Their service, however, is still top notch, and is leaps and bounds better than any other company I've ever seen or interacted with (which, at this point, has been most of the big ones).
TahiriVeila; I hope they will be up to it. The problem is, though, that the work they've done for 5 years (I assume) is just going to push the game out to shelves, and once the game is out, they will need to be working every bit as hard making new content and releasing it on a timely schedule. This is where every recent MMO attempt has failed. Fury... well, okay, bad example, fury was just a terrible game. Age of badnan, badhammer online, and badion all failed because they had no end-game. People got to max level and that was it, the only thing left to do was roll another char and do it all over again. If that's all TOR has, it is going to last about as long as it takes people to reach max level and then it will die.
I'm hoping it doesn't. I'm hoping bioware is going to pull a bg2 mixed with kotor and make it a fantastic game. But I'm not going to hold my breath. Bioware's recent performance and their inexperience with MMOs (and releasing shit on time) prevents me from singing their praises at this point in the show. -Auron 20:07, June 11, 2010 (UTC)
I need to not type when I should be sleeping. I meant a week, not a day. (And this was back when naxx loot was serious, even!) -- Armond WarbladeArmond sig image{{Bacon}} 19:16, June 12, 2010 (UTC)
I was under the impression dragon age and mass effect both have large fan bases and are pretty popular. I'd expect they will give an actual experience for people like they did in those games. While this doesn't mean necessarily a good mmo, they say they're going to be committed to the the game so we can only hope that includes endgame support. Can't really say age of conan was abandoned cause they recently released an expansion to fix a lot of its flaws, so it's not a total stereotypical trend. I'd be more enthusiastic about it since its star wars. Imo anything that undermines WoW is a good thing.--Relyk talk 20:33, June 12, 2010 (UTC)
But honestly, neither are as good as WoW, and neither have fanbases as big.
Let me make clear why this is a bad thing - WoW isn't a fantastic game. In terms of "great" games, I'd say I like bioware's more than blizzard's. I enjoyed d2, but I revered bg2. However, making a single game has nothing on making and maintaining a MMO. And this is coming off of several games that, by themselves, aren't as good as WoW. That really doesn't bode well for bioware.
WoW is popular for a number of reasons, publicity probably being #1, but the wide audience appeal has got to be #2. For me, the leveling sucks, PvP sucks, daily quests suck, grinding professions sucks, but the raiding is the most fun thing I've ever done in a video game in my entire life. There is so much detail in all aspects of WoW, however, that people who enjoy simply making alts all day can find sufficient content to sit there and fiddle around in level 50 areas for years. There are husband and wife teams that go around and mine ore or pick flowers together. For the poor sods who like imbalance, there are several PvP battlegrounds (think AB) and a handful of arena maps for TA-style play. It basically has everything, and whatever the player likes, he'll do for ages.
Bioware is going to have to match that. In star wars, they're going to have to get some kind of resource-gathering mechanic. They're going to have to have professions that are fun to level, provide noticeable combat bonuses, and aren't overpowered. The leveling will have to be fun, and there will have to be a literally endless supply of end-game content or people will simply walk out the door. The whole "omg star wars" thing will be a huge help for publicity and gathering a playerbase right off, but it will not keep them glued if the game itself is lacking (basically, if it has less of X than WoW does, everyone who enjoys X will simply migrate back - TOR is going to have to have all the X's WoW does and probably a few more if it really hopes to make a lasting impact on the market). Unless TOR is going to try to be a niche MMO like eve, it is simply going to have to be better and more polished than WoW from the get-go. And unfortunately for TOR, WoW's 5 years of tweaks have made it more appealing to a casual audience and have added a huge number of simple conveniences. Bioware has a hell of a job ahead. -Auron 04:23, June 13, 2010 (UTC)
Updated graphics and a wow clone with innovative features that revolutionize the genre doesn't seem too big of a task :P I'd agree they need features such as resource gathering to attract the casual fanbase but it's more about attracting the hardcore audience since casual players don't change games often. I doubt they even know how to attract a casual audience. There's plenty of canon in the star wars galaxy that will provide more than enough content to explore, ready to be put in the game. All bioware has to do is make sure it gives what starwars fans want first so it can actually create the fanbase before expanding to a wider audience, which i have no doubt is possible when it comes to star wars.--Relyk talk 07:28, June 13, 2010 (UTC)
